Frequently asked questions
What is MyWanderings?
MyWanderings is where my travel experience meets practical support. It’s both a personal blog and the home base for my travel advising services. I take care of the research, bookings, and logistics—so you don’t have to. Whether you're planning a quick escape or a multi-stop journey, I work with you to make sure the experience fits your goals and the details are covered.
Do you charge for your services?
Yes — but only when the request requires custom planning. My fees reflect the level of research, coordination, and supplier management involved. Some trips are straightforward, while others involve more moving parts, multiple accommodations, or even formal contracts.
Here’s how it works:
Booking‑only (no fee):
If you’ve already chosen a hotel, cruise, or activity and simply need me to handle the reservation, there is no planning fee. In this case, my role is limited to processing the booking and ensuring it’s confirmed correctly.Custom trip planning – solo, couple, or small family (one room/cabin): $300 flat fee
This tier applies when I’m designing a trip for one traveler, a couple, or a family that fits into a single room or cabin. The fee covers the time and expertise required to research destinations, compare options, and build a tailored itinerary that balances preferences, budget, and logistics.Custom trip planning – large family or group (more than one room/cabin, no contract): $600 flat fee
When a family or group requires multiple rooms or cabins, the logistics become more complex. I coordinate room assignments, ensure cabins are located together, arrange transfers for larger parties, and balance different preferences across the group. This tier reflects the additional time and detail required to make sure everyone’s experience is smooth and connected, without the need for a formal supplier contract.Contracted group travel (supplier contract required): $1,200 flat fee
Once a trip crosses into the territory of supplier contracts — such as hotel blocks of 10+ rooms, chartered transport, or event venues — the work shifts from simple reservations to contract negotiation and management. This includes reviewing terms, handling attrition and cancellation clauses, managing rooming lists, and coordinating with suppliers on payment schedules.Complex events (destination weddings, reunions, corporate retreats): quoted individually, starting at $1,800
Events go beyond travel planning. They involve multiple suppliers, detailed timelines, and coordination of both travel and on‑site programming. Because every event is unique, these are quoted individually. Fees start at $1,800 and scale depending on the scope, number of vendors, and level of coordination required.
Will I pay more by booking through you vs booking on my own?
Not necessarily—and often, you’ll get more for your money.
For hotels and other commissionable services, pricing is typically the same as booking directly. However, I sometimes have access to exclusive rates or promotions through my travel advisor affiliations that aren’t available to the public. I also monitor refundable bookings for price drops, so you don’t have to.
Cruise lines generally maintain consistent public pricing. However, I may be able to secure added perks—like onboard credits—thanks to my industry affiliations. These extras aren’t guaranteed, but when available, they’re a nice bonus.
But here’s the real value: I help you make confident, informed decisions. Whether you're overwhelmed by choices, unsure how to compare options, or just want someone to help sort out the logistics, I step in with personalized guidance. I take the time to understand your budget, travel style, and preferences—then filter out what doesn’t fit and highlight what does.
My goal isn’t to chase the lowest price—it’s to help you book the right trip. One that feels seamless, memorable, and tailored to you.
What if something goes wrong during my trip?
I’m your advocate from the moment we start planning until you’re back home. While I’m not available 24/7, I do my best to respond promptly—especially in urgent situations. If something goes wrong during your trip, I’ll help troubleshoot and guide you through next steps whenever I reasonably can. Whether it’s a missed connection, a last-minute change, or just needing clarity in the moment, I’m here to help you navigate challenges—not face them alone.
Are you part of a larger travel company?
I’m an independent travel advisor affiliated with Fora Travel, a modern host agency that provides access to trusted suppliers, booking platforms, and industry support. Through Fora, I’m also connected to Virtuoso, a leading travel consortium known for its global network and elevated travel experiences.
These affiliations allow me to work with vetted partners and, in some cases, access added perks—like onboard credits or upgrades—particularly with cruise lines and high‑end hotels. While extras aren’t guaranteed, my priority is always matching you with the best value and experience for your travel style.
While I book travel through Fora’s platform and use a fora.travel email address, all planning and communication comes directly from me.
Travel planning should feel exciting, not overwhelming. My goal with MyWanderings is to make the process transparent, stress‑free, and tailored to you. These FAQs explain how I work, what fees apply, and the value you can expect when we collaborate on your next journey.
Do you also book flights?
Airfare can be part of your trip, but it depends on the situation:
If you’re purchasing a package through one of my preferred suppliers, airfare is often included automatically.
I also assist with booking premium, business, and first class cabin flights when requested.
For economy airfare booked separately, most clients prefer to purchase directly, and I’ll happily advise on timing or routing if you’d like guidance.
This way, you know exactly when airfare is part of my service and when it’s best handled directly.
Why should I pay a planning fee?
The explanation above outlines when a planning fee applies. But beyond the tiers, here’s why the fee matters:
Booking online can be overwhelming—endless tabs, conflicting reviews, and uncertainty about what’s actually a good fit. The planning fee reflects the value of my expertise: cutting through the noise, tailoring itineraries to your style, and acting as your advocate from start to finish. It ensures you get a trip that’s seamless, memorable, and designed around your goals—not just the cheapest option on a screen.
What happens if I don’t book through you after paying the planning fee?
The planning fee is how I protect the time and expertise I dedicate to your trip. Designing a custom itinerary takes hours of research, supplier coordination, and thoughtful recommendations. Even if you decide to book on your own or the trip doesn’t move forward, the fee ensures that my work is fairly compensated.
As an independent advisor, my time is valuable. When I’m designing your trip, I’m investing hours that could otherwise be spent on other clients or commitments. The planning fee allows me to give your trip the attention it deserves while maintaining the sustainability of my business.
In short: whether you book through me or not, you’ll walk away with professional guidance and a curated plan that reflects your travel style.
Every trip is unique, and these FAQs are meant to give you clarity on how I work. To give you a sense of what it’s like to collaborate with me, I’ve included a selection of client testimonials below.
Robin was so helpful and efficient when helping me plan our family trip to Northern Europe. We wanted to hit the capitals of Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway over two weeks. In no time at all, Robin had outlined our itinerary including hotels and transportation. She has great insights and expertise based on her own extensive travels. While I find planning travel stressful and overwhelming, she actually enjoys it! If you are like me, I highly recommend working with Robin!

Our adventure in Peru was so well planned - just the right pace with a mix of adventure and downtime. Robin knew we loved cats so made sure we went to Kennedy Park in Lima where locals care for feral cats. We enjoyed it so much we went back two additional times, armed with Churu treats purchased locally. Robin also put careful thought into our adventure to Machu Picchu - planning a visit with a local guide to the citadel over 2 days to make sure we could see different sections, hedge against any bad weather, and get the best photos. She had everything so well organized - the only thing we had to do was follow the itinerary she laid out!

I would recommend Robin to anyone needing that extra help planning a long vacation. Even as a seasoned traveler myself, Robin provided us with hints, tricks, and recommendations that made our travels easier and with less worry. From her initial questions about what we like and don't like when we travel to suggestions of day trips or other experiences from her previous travels, Robin was a wealth of information and set us up to have the wonderful vacation we had. :-)
